Official Launch of the Center of Excellence for Public Health Emergency Management
Under the Ministry of Health, the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) has long since been at the forefront of addressing public health emergencies in Ethiopia. The Public Health Emergency Management (PHEM) Center at EPHI has been and continues to manage outbreaks of both national and international concern, as well as health consequences of natural and human made disasters. With the increased frequency and complexity of public health emergencies globally in recent years, it is imperative for countries to cultivate robust public health emergency management systems which contribute to strengthening the overall national health system. In line with this, EPHI is launching, in the presence of HE Dr Mekdes Daba, the Centre of Excellence for Public Health Emergency Management (PHEM-CoE) Initiative, an initiative which aims to position Ethiopia as a trailblazer in public health emergency management and resilience at regional, continental, and global levels. To mark this significant milestone in Ethiopia’s commitment to transforming our emergency preparedness and response capabilities, the official launch event to be held on May 7th 2025
